About Me

My photo
Hi, I'm Suzanne and I'm a stay at home mother to three. I have started my own vintage furniture business and am writing this blog to document its journey from idea to reality. My favorite things include my Matthew, Ella and Sophie, my handsome husband and all things PAINT! Believe me, I am not an experienced business person but I do know how to sand, strip, paint and am a DIY queen, so please follow along as I navigate the ups and downs of The Painted Drawer. Please join in the fun and become a member or subscribe. Cheers!

A New Tip and Summer Fun

I am learning that during the summer it is almost impossible to get anything done.  I mean, anything!  Dishes in the sink, laundry on the basement floor... you get the idea.  This past weekend we had a swim team relay carnival (I swam a leg on the mom's relay!), the team talent show and the Lock-In (a big sleepover at the pool where the kids play pool games, make s'mores and tell ghost stories around a firepit and then spend the night at the pool).  A long weekend of fun for the kids and exhausting for the parents.

Amagansett and Power

What a week it has been!  No power for a full seven days.  Almost unbearable heat and an upstairs that was hotter than an oven.  On the positive side, my kids all got along and treated it like a huge adventure and had fun.  Hey, camping in the basement with lanterns is pretty cool!  Playing board games, telling stories, and going to the pool every day kept them entertained.  The week was slow but sweet with my children making me laugh and my being able to enjoy every second of them because I had no internet access and the garage was too hot to breathe in - let alone paint!

Big Steps and Storms

Big news this week for The Painted Drawer!  Starting in August, I will have my own shop at On A Whim in Lucketts!  Very exciting and a bit daunting but it makes me smile :)

OK, the nerves kick in - paying rent every month, making sure I have enough merchandise to sell, driving out there (not exactly next door) every week and basically making a huge commitment.  I am surprised that even with all of the above, I am still SO EXCITED and happy to have my own space.

Here is a quick pic of where I will be.  It is currently full of items from the vendor who is moving to a larger, downstairs space.  I am looking forward to filling it up with The Painted Drawer's unique vintage finds and making it mine!

My space is between the wall hangings - nice size!

Canada Bound

Gearing up to leave today for Ottawa to visit family and celebrate my aunt's 80th birthday.  A much needed break after a week packed with baseball stress.  My son's team - the Lions - came in second place after a hard fought tournament.  I'm so proud of my son and my husband (the fantastic coach) for working so hard and doing so well.  My husband is the one on the right in the picture and my son, Matthew is the blond second from right :)  After the week we have had, I am really looking forward to getting into the car and driving away for a much needed break!

Always hard at work on The Painted Drawer, my mother and I searched and found some fantastic unique vintage finds!  A beautiful plank table with french country flair ironwork underneath, a lovely, curvy side table with gorgeous carving on

Summer Days Begin

Another week and summer is here :)  The kids are home, the days are long, and we are preparing for our summer which includes a trip to Canada and another to the beach.  In between planning our trips and coordinating my kid's summer days, I have been hard at work at The Painted Drawer.

I shipped the Versailles coffee table to Cave Springs, AR using Greyhound Express and was very impressed.  Not only were they

End of Year Race

Another week has flown by.  It seems like the end of the year activities have taken over and I am running a race to catch up to the next event and always running late.  We spent Saturday on the Mall in DC at the 100 Year Girl Scout Celebration and it was hot, hot, hot!  My girls had such a fun time trading swaps with girls from Canada, Florida, Washington state and other girls from distant troops.  We left early because my two scouts looked as if they were getting heat stroke in that sun.  Tomorrow is my daughter's fifth grade graduation and my seven year old won the "Good Citizen" award (it's a surprise!) and will receive it at another school assembly later in the day.  My son's baseball team is about to begin baseball playoffs - always exciting and stress inducing - and swim team has begun.  Whew.

Provence Blue Curves and Charm

A few "before and after" pictures of my full of curves and charm dresser!  I am waiting for my husband to help me move it into our house so I can take a better shot of it for Etsy.  I couldn't wait to show it off on my blog so please excuse the total mess in the background and surroundings - way too yucky for this French beauty to be photographed in :)
